“Once a year, go some place you’ve never been before.” – Dalai Lama
One of my other passions is travelling. I love going away, see different things, experience different cultures and different food, and learn how other people live in other parts of the world.
Sometimes it doesn’t even have to be a different country – it can be an unexplored part of your own country; what I find, and I think most people will as well, is that you’ll always learn something new. Even if it is never to go to that particular place again.
I am quite geeky about my travelling though. I do a lot of research, I like travelling blogs more than lonely planet guides, although these can also be useful at times. I prepare all my trip by the minute. Literally! I even research sunset and sunrise times in case we want to see it. I research places to see, what’s going on when we’re there and of course – restaurants. What are the locals advising and where are the tourists going.
Because yes, sometimes, you have to do the cheeky tourist check-list (like going to see the Eiffel Tower when in Paris, or Big Ben in London).
Oh and speaking about check-lists, I just love it! I always prepare several very thorough check-lists: for the departure so we don’t forget anything; the things we must see in each place; the ‘would be good to see’ things; the restaurants check-list; the shopping check-list; the return check-list…
Although I must say, most times when we finally get to our destination, things may slip a bit out of the plan and we just enjoy ourselves.
But hopefully I’ll be able to give you some advice on what to see where to eat, at all the places we’ve been and the ones we’re looking to go. Feel free to comment if you’ve been there too and you feel like I left something important out. i’m always on the lookout for awesome travelling tips.
